'Z' was formed in 1999 by the merger of two companies 'X' and 'Y'. 'X' was initially called 'Jersey Standard' and 'Y' was initially called 'Socony'. 'Z's environmental activities has been a target of critics from outside organizations such as Greenpeace as well as some institutional investors who disagree with its stance on global warming. In 2003, Greenpeace listed 'X' as #1 Climate Criminal. 'X' is also criticized for it's oil spills in Valdez and Brooklyn.
