'X' premiered on October 2, 1950, in eight newspapers. 'X' was a title 'Y' always disliked. In a 1987 interview, 'Y' said of the title 'X': "It's totally ridiculous, has no meaning, is simply confusing, and has no dignity — and I think my humor has dignity." Cartoon specials of 'X' have won Emmy awards. Characters of 'X' featured on the cover of the April 9, 1965 issue of TIME magazine. Over the years, the 'X' characters have appeared in ads for Ford,Metlife,etc.
